Days on the Farm - Sarah’s Story
Pregnant with baby number four, Sarah is all too familiar with her days on the farm. Morning chores, schoolwork with the kids, and still chasing her youngest wherever she manages to wander—it’s a full, beautiful kind of chaos. When she reached out, she told me she wanted to document just that. The real stuff. The noise, the love, the constant motion. She hoped to see the beauty in the everyday rhythm of their family of five—soon to be six.
When I arrive at sessions, nine times out of ten I get that familiar look from parents that says, “Okay, what do you want us to do first?” Translation: “What pose do we start with?” But the thing I love most about sessions like Sarah’s is that they aren’t built on poses at all. Instead, they’re shaped around the natural routines that make your family yours.
Of course, we’ll grab one or two “Christmas card” photos—everyone smiling at the camera—but most of our time together is spent just being. The kids showing me their favorite spots around the house. The family laughing over spilled feed or chasing chickens between shots. Sometimes it’s as simple as doing your morning chores and letting me tag along with a camera.
That’s the best of sessions like this one: no pretending, no performing, just life as it really is. Because family photos don’t always have to be quiet and polished—they can be loud, messy, and wonderfully real.
